Batumi

Batumi, the second largest city, is a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to Turkey. During my time in Batumi, I encountered tourists from various countries such as Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Saudi Arabia, and China. Situated on the Black Sea coast, Batumi is an ideal spot for sunbathing, beach activities, and relaxation. I traveled from Kutaisi to Batumi by minibus, which costs approximately 25 GEL (900 INR) and takes around 4 hours to reach the main stop. Initially, I planned to take the train, which departs at 6 AM and is known for its scenic route, but due to oversleeping, I missed it. The train ride is quite affordable at only 2 GEL, so I recommend trying it instead of opting for the bus.

In the area, you can find numerous tourist spots such as Europe Square, Batumi Pizza square, Ali & Nino Statue, Batumi Beach, Turkish street, Rustavalei Street, Batumi Boulevard, and more. While there are cathedrals located a bit further from the city, I didn't have the chance to visit them.

Europe Square:

At this square during the night, you can delight in excellent music from various cultures and genres. Additionally, there are numerous small kiosks where you can purchase souvenirs and food items to enhance your experience.

An Astronomical Clock displays different time-related elements such as the current time, day, zodiac signs, and more. It is an incredible piece of artwork housed in a beautiful building.

On the opposite side, you can observe the statue of Memed Abashidze, a distinguished Muslim leader in Georgia who was tragically executed during the Bolshevik Russian revolution.

Theatre Square:

Batumi Boulevard is a lively destination where you can unwind while enjoying the musical fountains. There are plenty of snack options available, and you can also engage with fellow tourists.

While dining out, I decided to sample Turkish cuisine and opted for the lamb shank and doner kebab, which totaled around 40 GEL (1200). Although a bit expensive, I learned that the restaurant is quite renowned. Later on, I purchased bananas, which were priced at 45 INR for two, a steep cost due to the fact that bananas are not locally grown in Georgia.

Due to the high number of tourists, the streets of Batumi appear to be somewhat dirtier than those of other cities I have visited.

Right in front of the beach, there is an open gym where I worked out for approximately 2 hours before spending another 2 hours on the beach. The beach is not your typical sandy beach, but rather covered in pebbles, making it challenging to walk barefoot. The Black Sea water is not very salty or cold, making it quite pleasant to swim in.

Don't miss the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll along the beach in the evening.
