Last year, someone noted that the hike to the Glacier is stunning, so I decided to try it this time. The hike is challenging since it's a steep climb all the way to the bottom of the glacier and the base camp. I believe the total elevation gain is about 1200 meters. It's approximately 10 kilometers from the city center and offers great views as you approach the mountain. One not so great about the hike is there is no good stream water to drink from and also the cafes charges alot for water :(.
I began my hike at approximately 6:30 AM and it took me about 45 minutes to reach the Gergeti Cathedral. From there, two paths diverge and eventually converge at a café after about 4-5 kilometers. I chose the left path, but the right trail would have offered more picturesque views as it overlooks Mount Kazbegi. The left trail provides views of the cathedral, which weren't as impressive in my opinion. From the cathedral, the right trail involves a steep climb, while the left trail ascends more gradually.

Upon arriving at the cafe, you'll be treated to stunning views of Mt. Kazbegi and have the opportunity to meet fellow hikers. It was here that I learned many hikers spend 3-4 days trekking to the mountain's summit. Interestingly, Mt. Kazbek is a dormant volcano. I didn't linger at the cafe for long and proceeded to the glacier, planning to relax and enjoy the cafe on my return journey.
After another 2-3 kilometers, you will arrive at the base of the glacier, which also offers stunning views. It took me about 4 hours in total to reach the bottom. You will also cross through the multiple streams from the glacier as you head to the bottom of it. I snacked on some dried fruits and nuts, relaxed for around 20 minutes, and took photos during that time.
On the return journey, I spent about 45 minutes unwinding at the café, chatting with other hikers, which made for a memorable experience :) and of course taking some more pictures.

Afterward, I began jogging back to the guest house where I was staying and arrived around 2:30 PM. Once back, I followed my usual routine of cooking and enjoying a meal which is bread, 5 eggs, bread, cucumbers, apples and some nuts.
